The Making Of The Making Of U

The Making Of U

The Making Of U

We recently completed a half hour documentary for charity After Adoption. The documentary was shot in Newcastle and Gateshead and covers the production of childrens book ‘The Making Of U’ by a group of adopted young people working under the pseudonym Kendra Fairbairn. Together with facilitator Paul Summers and illustrator Josie Brookes they created a beautifully written and illustrated book which is aimed at key stage 1 and deals with isssues such as identity and belonging.

“The Making of U is a book for all those kids just trying to work out who they are. Written by a group of adopted young people and stunningly illustrated by Josie Brookes,
The Making of U tells a story of self discovery and adventure which resonates with children and adults alike. Addressing questions every child needs to consider – Who am I?”

The Making Of U has recieved great reviews on several radio stations as well as in The Journal and The Guardian newspapers

We were present at every development meeting and recorded approximatly 20 hours worth of footage from the very start of the project all the way through to the book launch at Seven Stories Centre For Childrens Books

Our documentary, ingeniously titled ‘The Making Of…The Making Of U’ (no idea how we came up with that) has so far been screened at Tyneside Cinema and the After Adoption general meeting.

The book is available here from Amazon for £6.99

We hope to make excerpts of the documentary available online at some point once we have recieved clearence from all involved.

As a side note Check out Paul Summers new book Union
